Based in Barcelona, Soto–Lay Architects was formed in 2007, combining the independent practices of its partners Charmaine Lay and Santi Soto. Soto–Lay Architects is a tri-lingual office working in English, Spanish and Catalan.
We work at all scales of architecture for private clients and public institutions on residential, commercial, corporate and public projects. We design singular buildings, public space, bespoke one-family houses, apartment buildings, renovation and refurbishment of existing buildings and interior design, as well as furniture and exhibitions.
We work without stylistic preconceptions taking each new project as an opportunity, allowing each client’s singularities, programme, context and site to shape the project and make each one unique.
Our architecture is shaped by human activity responding intelligently and sensitively to its environment and allowing and encouraging new relationships with the context, whether urban or rural. It is always underpinned by common sense, structural clarity and sustainability.
Our practice offers a close working relationship with the client to fulfil their programmatic needs, continuously advising and consulting with them during the design process to achieve an architecture that will be enjoyed. If necessary for private clients, we will follow through planning permission applications and take on all necessary consultations with the local authority. We carefully oversee the entire building process paying every attention to detail.
The work of Santi Soto and Charmaine Lay has been awarded, published and exhibited locally and internationally.
