Apartment Refurbishment in Barcelona – Interiors

The penthouse apartment is in one of the most privileged locations in the centre of Barcelona with spectacular panoramic skyline views over the city.

Originally an office, the property was heavily subdivided with neither kitchen nor bathrooms. Security grilles had been placed on the outside of the windows that impeded any relationship with the exterior, so our first decision was to re-establish the relationship with the panoramic views. The space was opened up the views were reinforced by framing each of the openings with pine window frames placed on the interior face of the wall like paintings resting on a shelf that runs around the perimeter.

Floor and ceiling planes -both of pine- are not differentiated, reinforcing the horizontality of the space and the view through the windows.

The residual space resulting from regularising the apartment’s complicated geometry becomes the en-suite shower-room with views across the living area and through the windows over the city. The owner can enjoy the view while showering. A translucent glass window can be closed for privacy when necessary.
